Stress is very rampant since life is naturally hard. Did you know that there are many different types of stress among adults? Stress is not a hundred percent terrible because it is the very instinct that ensured humanity’s survival for many centuries. But chronic cases can definitely be bothersome to the growth and performance of an average adult.
This is characterized as the type of stress that only happens for a short period of time. This classification is also very common. Its root cause is usually reactive thinking. It is common among pessimists or those individuals with a very negative mindset about everything, from their present to their future. For instance, you might have acute stress from a recent argument you just had with someone. Your thoughts might be cycling around what went down during the argument, what you could have said, etc. acute stress may also arise from an upcoming project or deadline you are dreading. This is really very much based on your thoughts and it usually goes away as soon as its source is remedied.
Episodic Acute Stress
This is exactly like acute stress except that it is repeated. That means the person with episodic acute stress actually lives with the presence of stress all day long. The patient often has a chaotic life filled with crisis after crisis. They feel pressured or rushed all the time. They often take a load of responsibilities that they cannot really handle which results in failure.
There are so many negative effects to this type of stress. You can get severe emotional distress, cognitive issues, and even muscular distress. You will also see your personal relationships with other people deteriorate because you cannot properly function as yourself which means that your interactions are compromised.
The last type of stress is chronic stress. This is actually deemed to be the most harmful classification among the three. This has the capability to cause irreversible harm to your physical and mental health. Chronic stress may come from very severe stressors such as physical abuse, poverty, a bad working environment, drug problems, a dysfunctional or unhappy marriage, and many more. You might notice that these factors are inescapable and often deeply rooted in the patient’s life. These repetitive yet wrong patterns of behavior become the norm for the patient. That makes them more prone to the harmful effects of chronic stress.
This is very harmful because it chips away a part of the person, piece by piece, every day, for a long period of time. It comes with unrelenting anxiety and depression. Imagine living every second of your life haunted by your problems. It is impossible to function normally when you are always constantly worried about your life problems.
